International Conference on Sports in Malmö, Sweden
April 8–12, 2010
How to get here

“Here” is Orkanen (which is Swedish for “the hurricane”), the venue for the Conference. Orkanen is also the home of Malmö University School of Teacher Education, the University Library and the Dept. of Sport Sciences. This seat of learning provides work space for close to 400 employees and approximately 7,000 students. Orkanen is situated in the heart of Västra hamnen (the western harbor), a dockside development for residential and business purposes. Orkanen is easily accessible and has already gained some city center status. The buildning is 150 meters in length and 60 meters wide, five stories high and encompasses approximately 43,000 square meters (462,848 square ft.). From the outside it looks like a greenish glass box with a rippled façade, but in actual fact it is six sections fused together to one building with five inner courtyards.

The color and appearance of the façades shift depending on the time of day, weather and where the observer is standing. The angles of the building and structure of the glass facade mean that light refracts in different ways which creates constant variation. Letters have been mounted under the glass façade that form words in different languages based on different themes. The words appear or disappear depending on where you move in relation to the building.
